Toward a digimob logo
I finally got around to doing some basic work for the digimob logo, thought I'd share my thought process here. I thought the I Ching would be an excellent place to start, since it's sort of an ancient digital computer in its own way. I asked the question, "Which hexagram best represents the ideals of the digimob project?" and got an answer with no moving lines: Hexagram 61, "Inner Truth". As usual, the I Ching gives me a remarkable and unimpeachable answer.
Moving along, I thought it would be a very good idea to get some kind of number to represent digimob for the sake of building other associated symbols around it. The number 61 is the number most directly suggested by the I Ching reading, but that applies only in the domain of the I Ching. Another number that suggests itself is 51, which is the binary value (regardless of endianness, since it's symmetrical) of hexagram 61, if yang is taken as 1 and yin is taken as 0. I'm not quite sure where to go from here, and I'm open to suggestions.
I'd like to include elements from other traditions here, but a quick look through the Sepher Sephiroth doesn't fill me with the highest degree of confidence in 61, 51, or 112 for the digimob project. Perhaps someone else can find another inroad to making use of number associations in a digimob logo. In the meanwhile, I'll put my thinking cap back on and maybe it'll lead somewhere. In any case, I think the creation of a powerful and association-rich symbol for digimob is a good idea.

Re: Toward a digimob logo
The main focus of the digimob logo should be a swastika, representing the eternal driving force of man's (and woe-man's) quest for sacred knowledge. Below this appear the letters 'K.K.K' to symbolize the three forms of Knowledge: text, audio, and video.

Good ideas! We can also draw a giant middle finger to point "above" -- that is, to our higher aspirations.

Re: Toward a digimob logo
As for numbers... If we take just the name DigiMob through Numerology, we get 24/6 for the vowels, 17/8 for the consonants, and 41/5 for the combination of the vowels and consonants. This could be seen as 685, or have the numbers 6 8 5 woven into a mandala, or taken as 5 being the Conscious/Self of DigiMob, 8 being the Subconscious/Soul of DigiMob, and 6 being the Unconscious/Spirit of DigiMob.
However, if we convert the English letters to Hebraic letters and utilize Germatia, we get Daleth/Venus/4, Iod/Virgo/10, Gimel/Moon/3, Iod/Virgo/10, Mem/Water/40, Oin/Capricorn/70, Beth/Mercury/2, for a total of 139, which equates to HDQL (Hiddekel) "The Eastern River of Eden." Additionally, 139 can be reduced down, 1+3+9=13... 1+3=4... Traditionally, card 13 of the Tarot is Death (transformation) and card 4 is Emperor (sovereignty.) This might be in keeping with DigiMob's ideals and identity.

Thanks for joining in! 6-8-5 is an interesting one to keep in mind. 13 is a favorable number in many ways, but I'm not sure if it's too much of a stretch. I like 6-8-5, though, partly because it could be taken as outlining a transformational process: Macrocosm - Realization - Microcosm [see, for example, Levi's Doctrine of Transcendental Magic]. This would be very much in line with Digimob's efforts in a sense: From changing the external world (by making material available) to realization (one can hope) to changing the internal world. Assuming this is a valid number sequence based on digimob (I don't know the numerological method employed), this would make for an excellent basis for a symbol, imo. It might also be worth trying similar methods with "Occult Digital Mobilization", just to see what other options are.
Another one I came up with last night involves taking the binary from the two trigrams of hexagram 61 separately, which yields 6 and 3. Also, if yin is taken for 1 and yang is taken for 0, hexagram 61 yields 12 in binary. But I'm not quite sure what to do with either of those yet, if anything.

Coincidentally, the seed (containing the zero and 5 elements) which appears either side of the 'Occult Digital Mobilization' in the site banner is from the BOTA Death card.

Re: Toward a digimob logo
Occult Digital Mobilization would be 68/14/5 for the vowels, 51/6 for the consonants, 119/20/2 for the combined vowels & consonants, making 5-6-2. However, the first reduction in the vowels of 14 implies a malefic of karmic obligation. That of obsessive abuse of Self-Expression.neutralrobotboy wrote:

For Grematia, it could be taken in three parts.... Oin/Capricorn/70+Kaph/Jupiter/20+Kaph/Jupiter/20+Vau/Taurus/6+Lamed/Libra/30+Teth/Leo/9 = 155 = OLMIH "the Concealed and Saving." -- Daleth/Venus/4+Iod/Virgo/10+Gimel/Moon/3+Iod/Virgo/10+Teth/Leo/9+Aleph/Air/1+Lamed/Libra/30 = 67 = BINH "Understanding," -- Mem/water/40+Oin/Capricorn/70+Beth/Mercury/2+Iod/Virgo/10+Lamed/Libra/30+Iod/Virgo/10+Zain/Gemini/7+Aleph/Air/1+Teth/Leo/9+Iod/Virgo/10+Oin/Capricorn/70+Nun/Scorpio/50 = 309 = MVSGR "a Leper." The totaling for those three components would be 531, which could be repsented graphically by the Hebraic Letters K(f)-L-A... Kaph (final)/Jupiter/500 - Lamed.Libra/30 - Aleph/Air/1,
* KLA is not really listed as a proper Hebraic word.... however, it could be taken tongue-in-cheek as either the beginning of the fictional name Klaatu, or as the start of the "safe-word" Klaatu barada nikto, both from the film "The Day The Earth Stood Still."

Now, how can we integrate that into a logo...

Haha, that's such an awesome thing to have had as a first association! Thanks for listing this stuff, btw. Hopefully something sensible will come out of all this.

I know nothing about that symbol, but I like it. Anyone know where it comes from and how it's generally used?

It is used in Paul Foster Case (BOTA) Tarot Deck.
He has the following to say about it:
“Note that this little seed is composed of two ovals (that is, two zeros). From the smaller oval, five rays extend into the limits of the larger oval. And the two ovals are united. Here is a simple hieroglyphic of the whole process of manifestation. The two ovals are united, or really one. They represent the seed-power whence all things spring.
The inner and smaller oval is the source of the radiant energy, differentiated as Ether, Fire, Air, Water and Earth. This energy fills the space enclosed by the larger oval, which, remember, is one with the small oval.
Here we have expressed the idea that an inner power projects itself, or a seeming extension of itself, as a space (the larger oval) and fills that space with the forms of energy whose combination constitutes the body of the universe.”
Paul Foster Case:
when coloured the seed is left white.

Re: Toward a digimob logo
I like it. And it seems to describe the opposite process to the one I mentioned before as a potential meaning for 6-8-5. One is the macrocosm altering the microcosm, the other is the microcosm altering the macrocosm. I like this very much as a theme, and it goes well with the hexagram... Plenty to juggle around there.
Also, this made me look into BOTA for the first time today. Some really excellent stuff there. Thanks!

Re: Toward a digimob logo
an idea:
a simple flat graphic of a mountain, triangular in shape with a snowy cap. on peak of said mountain a pole with a satellite dish pointed up with waves shooting out. the overall graphic has a hourglass shape and the symbolism is as follows. mountaintop peak= attainment/illumination/closer to heavens. the transmitter dish= technology spreading and communicating the attainment/wisdom/enlightenment/whatnot throughout space to those on the same channel. the overall hourglass shape could also be read as a male and female/ fire and water triangles meeting. im sure other meanings could be read into it. if interested i could supply sketches.

I like it! And I think there's no reason this can't be compatible with other elements mentioned in this thread. I think it'd be cool if you could give a sketch of your idea and (if it's ok with you) I'll maybe play around with it and see if I can add some of my ideas to it in an appropriate way. I think it'd be really cool to have a final product that came out of collaboration, provided it's better for it rather than becoming confused.
Re: Toward a digimob logo
what format? .jpg .psd .tiff .pdf .ai? i use adobe cs, and wanna start on the same page formant wise. ill use .ai cause vectors are better for logos/text.

Agreed.
The emitting-mountain sounds like a great suggestion! How might we integrate a logo into the project? Re-vamp the aesthetics of the forums? Add to ?? in the forums? Add in digest release info?

Re: Toward a digimob logo
how to intergrate?
logos usually end up in banners and headers on the website, as a symbol that creates identity and links that identity to the content.
as for the torrents, it can go into the .doc or .nfo someone could even attempt an ascii version.
later on, or if there is a big push for advertising/awareness campaign, the logo could be used on t-shirts-leave behinds-hats-keychains-whatnot.
basically whatever the finished design is, you want to have a black and white with an inverse logo and a color version if color is wanted. that way they can be placed on anything digimob.

Sounds reasonable enough. Many - but not all - trackers allow image embeds in torrent descriptions, so that could be managed.
A logo wouldn't necessarily replace the current banner, but we might consider how to align the two concepts.
Anyone else have thoughts on the subject?

Maybe you should just stick to drawing these:

I've been thinking about this a little more... Forumotion gives us a portal, but it's currently disabled. We could easily use this - or another logo - there, or we could consider a site revamp. Comments? Suggestions?
