White Male seeking... adventure!

Gentlemen (and ladies),

I am on a roadtrip across America with my girlfriend. I'm currently chilling out in the Palace of Gold Hindu Temple in West Virginia. I'm looking for interesting places to see, ideally in various parts of the southern USA. Today we're headed off to Nashville (For some Jack-in-the-Box and maybe some Blues).

Suggestions? We're highly flexible in location, but looking to be somewhere without snow. Our current plans involve trying to get to New Orleans in time for Mardi Gras and trying to get some work rebuilding either it or Houston. Or something similar. We're planning on doing the vagabond thing for as long as we can. So if anyone has any knowledge of cheap places to live and work, or crap to do to raise our stockpiles of money... I'd appreciate that as well.
