Yo Folks, How Goes?
Good day Lads and Lasses, hope all is going well. :]
I've finally gotten around to posting here so figured I should do the introduction bit before I ask some questions.
Background really quick; only got serious about occult subjects this past summer due to enough free time and the right environment to let it prosper. I'm doing work on as many subjects as I can but have been focusing on mediation and tarot recently. Other subjects I'm looking into are Thelema, Golden Dawn material, NLP (neuro linguistic programming) and sigil/language work.
I've started a Esoteric Society at my local university and appear to be one of the most knowledgeable folks around, so I'm likely be giving a lot of workshops (and asking you all a good deal of questions ).
Personal info; I'm involved in boxing, body building, yoga, social organizing, I am usually reading ten or more books on and off, from Canada's north but currently hangin' round the east coast, and have a knack for knowledge absorption.

Hi Lucian, welcome! Did you have much trouble getting started with your group? Was their any significant resistance from faculty or students? Would you like to describe a little about what you get up to for meetings?

Re: Yo Folks, How Goes?
haha, I should have explained this a bit more at the start. I've started an Esoteric society (similar to a boxing club, running club, english department society, etc), not an Esoteric order (like the O.T.O. or the Golden Dawn). I wanted a bit of a physical community to help keep me in the game and focused, but there was nothing here but an out of the way Freemasons lodge (not my scene).
So I figured I'm get one going and have had positive response. So far we have not had any trouble but I've keep the initial drive small to get something concrete made before we go to the masses. The town is strongly conservative, but hopefully people will be either accepting or apathetic to the group, rather then hostile.
Today is the second meeting and I'm giving a workshop on tarot spreads. Most who have joined have done so to learn more about the occult/esoteric, so workshops and some movies on various topics seem to be the plan for now.
As a quick learner and the creator of the society, I'll probably do the first few, though I hope others join in and step up in the future.

Re: Yo Folks, How Goes?
Welcome aboard! I'd be interested to hear how your "esoteric society" takes shape -- I was considering doing a similar thing, but seem to have decided against it in the end.
My take only: This may be your greatest obstacle.

yahoy! glad to have you along, sounds like you're rather motivated. i agree with robot that the absorption of knowledge may be a serious stumbling block to development. power ought to grow at a similar rate to the acquisition of new knowledge, or else you're liable to end up in an ocean of books that you've completely read and thoroughly understood but have no real use for. i recommend beginning with a form of divination that you can invest a reasonable amount of confidence in, and that communicates with you on a level of intuitive awareness - it'll never stop helping you. i also always suggest that people get their feet wet immediately with austin osman spare's sigil technique.

I, likewise, will be interested to hear how your 'esoteric society' progresses.
IMO, this is a commendable degree of initiative. Most folks can't be bothered to create much of anything.
