Is mentor the wrong word..? ::ponders:: Motivation is an issue for me, I miss my education...Can be on any occult oriented subject matter, would like to have structured discussions//lessons. Perhaps we could use Skype or something similar? No pre-req's just a desire to impart something that you feel strongly about. Hit me up on AIM or Gmail if you have the time//desire. Neutral
thanks!

A 'study circle' could be an interesting proposition... but a daunting responsibility.

What've you been studying?

re. Shōbōgenzō, I've studied some Dōgen and found it an immensely powerful tradition. How'd you find your way there?

I'm pretty sure Hadrianswall practices along these lines... he'll be back in a few weeks. Smile

I recently re-read the Shobogenzo myself... I find Dogen Zenji's works hard to get through at times because of the constant references to things that are very far removed from me in time and space. For that reason, I would find it absolutely impenetrable without commentary.

It may make me some sort of new-age cliche, but I've found "Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind" to be really straightforward and useful, personally. I've probably gotten more from it than from Dogen, on the whole.

It's funny, there seems to be a lot of blending of Western occultism with the traditions of Yoga, but I don't really see it being blended so much with Zen.
