Greetings! Where to start?
Hello everyone. I'm looking forward to becoming an active member in this community. However, I'm hoping for a little help with direction. I have the Occult Carrot collection of books and was wondering what would be a good start for a new student. Although I am currently interested in Rosicrucianism and Gnosticism, I'm assuming there are probably some texts that every student should be familiar with. Any other advice is welcome as well. I appreciate the help.

Greetings jack owen:
I too just joined this site, and because I am a beginner, it sounds like we are in the same boat. I'll tell you what I have done so far to start my studies. The occult and its esoteric teachings is a huge topic! One needs an overview. So, I used wiki. This method isn't very academic, but it is a great tool for its intended use. This method easily helps to put works and authors into a hierarchy of importance, and it shows what and who to avoid. It should also be noted that the Order of the Golden Dawn exerted the greatest influence, or is the source for much of what is considered to be modern “occult”. Free masonic influence upon works, authors, and orders will also become easily apparent.
My approach is to read The Secret Teachings of All Ages, by Manly P Hall. It is the perfect overview. From there, I will identify my interests and pursue them. Perhaps this approach can work for you.
Well, that is my advice. Good luck, jack owen.
