Greetings and Salutations
Hello,
I'm just stopping in to say hello. Topics of interest to me are Egyptian and Sumerian magical systems, Chaos Theory, Numerology, and whatever looks interesting that day.

Re: Greetings and Salutations
Hi Kallistra! I've not explored the Sumerian traditions. Is there a strong numerological component within?

Re: Greetings and Salutations
aloha, glad to have you aboard. have you ever read anything about the "holographic universe"? it's the latest theory that i've paid attention to, seems to forge some strong alliances between the mystic and the mathematician. hope you enjoy the forum!

Re: Greetings and Salutations
Thanks all for the greeting!
@MysteryStudent - Currently, the flavor is heka and ancient Egyptian theory.
@ezavan - I'll have to take a look at that, sounds right about what I like to make correlations with.
@ankh_f_n_khonsu - I haven't delved enough into Sumerian to start making numerological connections with it yet. I got sidetracked by Egyptian studies. :-)

Re: Greetings and Salutations
@everyone, but mostly ezavan: I have long been interested in holograms and the associated art/science of holography. I started doing research into the topic not long after I started working with computers, which as my intro post mentions was at the age of eleven, and involved writing programs. One of the things I stumbled across, in a book written in the '80's sometime, was the notion of a "Holographic Theory of Reality", wherein every point in existence contains the essence of every other point, as each point in a hologram contains the essence of the entire hologram - cut a hologram in half and you end up with two copies of the same image, albeit with a reduced degree of detail in each. (Don't try this with a credit card, though - those are foil imprints, not actual holograms. They may have been true holograms at some point, but I digress.)
A similar theory was proposed - in the same book, I believe - that applied to the nature of the mind. Certain things, such as knowledge and memory, seem to be located throughout the entire brain as opposed to any one region or point, and damage to part of the brain only clouds the memories and knowledge somewhat, though it may decrease the quality of the memories to the point where the filter between memory and consciousness throws them away before the consciousness even knows they exist. This suggests an 'all-points-in-one' model of the human brain, just as magic and other aspects of the physical realm (quantum physics runs into strange behaviors all the time) seem to point toward an 'all-points-in-one' model of the universe.
Definitely something to look into, and I think possibly even submit material for the next release about. I'll have to see what I can dig up.
@kallistra: Perhaps a bit belated in this post, but I'm too lazy to edit it and put this first ( ). Welcome to the forums! Have you had a chance to download any of our digests yet? Take a peek at the Release Index to see if there's anything we've released (I keep saying "we" as though I've contributed anything except a few random comments on the forums!) that you don't already have in your library. And of course, make yourself at home. Go well, and may the Winds guide you in your Journey!
