Binaural Beat Programs
A number of programs have arisen in the last 20+ years which offer tapes/CDs/etc. of audio sequences which contain "Binaural Beats" -- sounds which are claimed to synchronize the brain to certain frequencies. The claimed benefits of these sounds are numerous: "meditation, lucid dreaming, and remote viewing" are common aims; emotional well-being, depth of focus, creativity, and more are all claimed as results by others.
Examples include Hemi-Sync and Holo Sync (some of this has been distributed by digimob). There are numerous others.
My understanding is that both of these programs are comprehensive and I have heard first-hand reports of being able to "work through deep emotional issues" over long periods of regular use, if nothing else. (As a side note, the Holo Sync program's "Thresholds of the Mind" contains many worthwhile insights, though it is essentially a sly sales pitch. Very strange combinations occur due to commercialization, no?)
However, some may be interested to know that simple programs have been devised which are able to generate these tones on the fly (an operation which is in fact trivial). SBaGen is one such open-source program designed for this purpose. Google and Sourceforge searches will reveal others. Those who are brave may venture into or PureData or SuperCollider or other stronger audio synthesis programs.
These matters are significant because for those who are willing to do a bit of research, personalized experimentation with these tones becomes something very easy to do from any computer (with a decent pair of headphones, something that is absolutely essential). This may prove a worthwhile skill-set to add to the repertoire of any aspirant, psychonaut, [insert label here].

Re: Binaural Beat Programs
I've had good results with the Proteus, and recommend it highly.
