Forgive the pedentry, but by Yoga do you mean Hatha Yoga?

My understanding of the word Yoga is 'a system which leads to unity consciousness through disciplined practice'. My interpretation comes from the Sanskrit root 'yuj' which can be translated as 'to control, to yoke or to unite.'

Although it does a great dis-service to reduce them down so, 5 major branches of Indian yoga could be defined as:

  • Raja Yoga - mind/mediation
  • Jnana Yoga - mental/knowledge
  • Bhakti Yoga - heart
  • Hatha Yoga - body
  • Karma Yoga - right-living

Obviously there are also many, many more forms of Yoga, but these 5 alone cover many practices.

When votation I kept in mind it was Hatha Yoga, so I pushed no. If you mean in the terms of Hadrianswall of "a system which leads to unity consciousness through disciplined practice", I'd say yes. Shocked

When someone says "yoga", I see no reason to automatically associate it with "hatha". Why the stereotyping?

The image conveyed a single representative example.
