I, too, found this website while getting the Student of the Occult torrents on isohunt.

Let's see... I've always been strange. Ever since I was a kid. Hmm. I always had sort of this interest in the occult but had a hard time finding anything I could relate to. So I became a sort of general student philosopher around the age of 18, after a general trend going back at least to junior high... Hm...

Well then I discovered Gnosticism, and I read about it online. I never read the source texts because I've always found that sort of thing inscrutable for me, much like the problem I had with a lot of philosophers. But I was the sort who appreciated what I saw as philosophy in media, movies or books or comics or video games and also music. I love music. I was sort of disappointed when I went to fill out my profile information and there was no place designated for the music I like because that figures a lot into my thing....

Over the years I read about all the major religions, read a few new agey type texts, and I sort of cobbled together a set of beliefs for myself but I always felt that I lacked a sort of legitimacy.

About two years ago, this guy, whom I had met basically because I had started smoking pot, leant me a copy of The Illuminatus! Trilogy and I got into Discordianism. I liked it right away because it basically said do what you want, and it helped me to reconcile my weird artistic urges along with my media philosophizing. It told me "all that stuff is A-OK."

So I was looking to get deeper into it and some occult stuff came up, and my girlfriend has been studying the occult since forever so once I realized there was a rare occult library online I started looking to torrent that and then I found out about digimob. So I thought, hey, I'm only a member of three other forums and three social networking sites, I have room for one more. hahaha.

So any other Discordians or people who have been into it? I'm not what I call an "orthodox" Discordian, for instance I never eat hot dogs. So that is to say I don't follow the letter of the Principia Discordia, because what it's really saying is do what you like and make up whatever rules work for you. And I don't like hot dogs. Very Happy

also, I tend to ramble. That's what other people call it, anyway. I get lots of tl;dr comments from people.

I'm also a sort of Anarchist. It's kind of complicated, but for me Anarchy means not forcing anyone to do anything and being aware of how we use power on others and the environment. So you put that together with the Discordia stuff and basically I do what I want, which is to not control other people.

Ahoy, and welcome! I've been friends with a few discordians, myself. Actually, some of my best friends are discordians. And nothing wrong with anarchy either. The term "anarchy" covers a lot of philosophical ground, as you probably know.

Anyway, glad to have you aboard. Enjoy!

Welcome, SpacemanSchmuck!

A great many honest students come by way of New Age foo-foo. We hope Digimob provides a nice counter-balance. If you're into more scholarly literature, you'll find it. If you're into LHP literature, you'll find it. Etc. Wink

aloha! glad to have a discordian voice present...you know, i would also describe myself as a sort of "anarchist" but hearing somebody identify themselves that way reminds me of a hilarious incident that illustrates an ironic point, it happened only about a week ago. this kid, who i have always seen as a sort of rival to me (because his totally materialistic outlook has the same sort of pull as my dream-immersed attitude. come to find, his charisma is based only on his own subjective opinion that his opinion is objectively true, fancy that) well, he was drunk and getting fiery, he started going on and on and on about what specific rules of thought and behavior a person had to follow in order to subscribe to "anarchism". now, naturally there were a lot of really ironic contradictions within his argument when compared with his behavior, but it's moot. what i am reminded of is the realization that the only really potent enemy to the raw freedom that is possible for us in these times is a closed mind. not to say that your little paragraph reminded me of his self-deluding diatribe, but it's funny to me that somebody could have put such effective blinders on that even "anarchy" becomes a bureaucratic process...anyway, welcome aboard, hope you find the forums - and your growing digital library - educational and entertaining!

thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

ezavan, your anecdote was most illustrative. I totally agree about fundamentalism and dogma in an ideology like anarchism. It's extremely ironic.

Khephra, I'm looking forward to pillaging many and divers occult texts to cobble together into my own bizarre mish-mash. Very Happy

Thanks again everybody! I will probably be fairly lurky for a while, and speak up sometimes when I feel confident. An open ear requires a closed mouth etc etc and I have plenty to learn so I will shut up and do that! hahaha. have a wicked rad day, guys!

Odd name. Crooked sense of humor. General disregard for the glorious miracle that is the hot dog. Yep, I think I rather like you already. Very Happy

If you have anything lying around that we didn't get to including in our "rare occult library online" (I especially like that description of the DigiMob releases!), feel free to offer it up.

For inclusion, I mean. Cause, yeah, sacrificing the written word would totally piss off some major Power That Is. Or is that Power That Be's? Rolling Eyes It would at least make me a bit unhappy. Very Happy

And of course, enjoy your time among the crazy whackos that hang out here. And everyone who isn't me.

Sweet. Thanks for the friendly welcome. odd sense of humor, check.

I have a mediafire folder with all the discordian stuff I could find, maybe there's something there that isn't in the torrentz.

I'll take a look. The best way to get things included is to email them (or a link to them if they're too large to email) to occult [dot] digital [dot] mobilization [at] gmail [dot] com; you can use the Release Index (there's a link at the top of the page) to check for individual files. Perhaps we have some things in the torrentz that you don't have?

I got the three really big ones, the Student of the Occult Mega-Torent 2.1 through 2.3, and also digest #16.

I've had problems sending files that have much size to them over yahoo email, so I will probably check the release index first.

Yeah, many email systems have a file size limit on what can be emailed. It's usually around 2MiB, though in some places it's larger. The only thing to do for files larger than your email system's limit is to email a link instead of the actual file. Direct links are usually better than folder links, but then some file hosting services don't allow direct linking to uploaded files.

If you find anything in the Index that you want to add to your own collection, you can download the .torrent for it by clicking on the Digest name.
