Media Lies -

Post  ankh_f_n_khonsu on Sun Jan 25, 2009 2:35 am

Here's a short but highly provocative video discussing lies from the mainstream media.

Enjoy! Smile

No real surprise there. It's pretty much a given: You take a group of people, connect them with eachother, disconnect them with other people and they'll put their own interests before other people's. It's as much human nature as a conspiracy.

Also, I'm amused at how the video ends in the middle of the guy talking about the layers of media, before he talks about anything beyond the front line people.

Do you really think there's such a thing as 'human nature'?

I was also amused by the strange ending... and curious to see what was in the remainder of the footage.

Out of curiosity, I clicked to see the next video and watched an adolescent tie his shoe in a most amazing way... cheers for the link! Smile

I don't know if I'd codify some big "human nature" term. I would say there are some(perhaps many) common elements in most people's behavior.

Ex. People tend to act in selfish (In a neutral sense) ways. This is pretty straight forward since, as an example, my experience of reality is based around... me and my senses, thoughts, etc. Since this is probably true of everyone else (precluding solipsism) it makes selfishness a more or less natural mode of behavior. It may or may not be the only one, but it's definitely a popular way of experiencing reality.

Would you disagree that a group of people who share the same social circles and worldview are likely to try and spread that worldview? And even that they might consider their actions to be working for the highest good of everyone. I'm not saying for sure this is how our hypothetical "they" are. Just what seems to me to be reasonably likely.

How does altruism fit in?
