Agreed.

The emitting-mountain sounds like a great suggestion! How might we integrate a logo into the project? Re-vamp the aesthetics of the forums? Add to ?? in the forums? Add in digest release info?

how to intergrate?
logos usually end up in banners and headers on the website, as a symbol that creates identity and links that identity to the content.
as for the torrents, it can go into the .doc or .nfo someone could even attempt an ascii version.
later on, or if there is a big push for advertising/awareness campaign, the logo could be used on t-shirts-leave behinds-hats-keychains-whatnot.

basically whatever the finished design is, you want to have a black and white with an inverse logo and a color version if color is wanted. that way they can be placed on anything digimob.

Sounds reasonable enough. Wink Many - but not all - trackers allow image embeds in torrent descriptions, so that could be managed.

A logo wouldn't necessarily replace the current banner, but we might consider how to align the two concepts.

Anyone else have thoughts on the subject?

I can't draw, so maybe someone can kindly sketch this idea for me: it's the grim reaper holding a scythe in one hand, and the severed head of Harry Potter in the other.

Maybe you should just stick to drawing these:

I've been thinking about this a little more... Forumotion gives us a portal, but it's currently disabled. We could easily use this - or another logo - there, or we could consider a site revamp. Comments? Suggestions?

I like the current banner, the one with Gandalf catching a butterfly in his hand.

I like the current logo, as well. Maybe we can just clean it up a bit.

fie on using our logo conventionally. isn't this a group of magicians? in my opinion, the logo should have a specific refined magical purpose like a sigil - i recommend that we get together on ideas for a statement of intent, such as "it is our will that the mind be open to new possibilities" or "our will that knowledge be distributed freely" or some other mission statement that can then be interpreted by group members and ideas for a sigil can thus gestate. i like the mountain idea, but instead of generic radio waves, i think the emanation should be a symbol of sigil caliber. also, for a statement of intent i posit my second example "our will that knowledge be distributed freely"

Can you be more precise when you say it "gives you a portal"?

I agree that the mountain/broadcast idea could be improved. What I like about the mountain idea is mostly that it represents the "from us to you" aspect of the work. Actually, I think the hexagram, the mountain/broadcast image, the "seed" from the current banner (well, from BOTA), and perhaps some of the numbers mentioned earlier in the thread, point to a process that could form the basis for a powerful aspect of a new symbol: The transformation of the microcosm by the macrocosm and vice-versa. That is, the mutual transformation or what might be considered the "transformation cycle", wherein external circumstances bring about conditions suitable for interior change which, when complete and established, reflect outwardly to change external circumstances for others.

I've been slack with actually doing concrete work on this, I'll try to rectify that very soon. For me, though, this is the most interesting and pertinent idea to represent.

An "our will is" statement that extends what's already been proposed might be: "Our will is that knowledge be distributed freely, so that others may get what they need in order to alter themselves, so that the transformation cycle may quicken its pace and enlarge its scope."

Well, since Neutralrobotboy is busy working on the archival index, perhaps Ezavan can coordinate ideas for a logo. It seems like there are some good suggestions already, so there's plenty of momentum.

What do you think, Ezavan?
